Eye On Jihadis in Libya Weekly Update: March 12

IS in Action

On 7 March, a gang of five men suspected of having connections to Islamic State were arrested as they reportedly attempted in to ‘infiltrate’ Tripoli. Reports suggest three of those arrested were dressed as women.

Other Jihadi Actors

On 6 March, Bosnian security services released a statement indicating that Nusret Imamovic, the country’s most wanted terrorists and one of the most wanted terrorists in the world, had arrived in Libya sometime in February after having escaped Syria where fought along with Jabhat al-Nusrah. Imamovic travelled to Syria in 2013 where he joined the al-Nusra Front.

New statement from the Islamic Emirate of Aghanistan’s Zabīh Allah Mujāhid: “Remarks Regarding Conclusion of Latest Round of Talks”

l_DzlA8Q

Talks that began with the United States on the 25th of February 2019 came to an end today, 12th March 2019.
This round of talks saw extensive and detailed discussions taking place regarding two issues that were agreed upon during January talks. Those two issues were the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Afghanistan and preventing anyone from harming others from Afghan soil; how and when will all foreign forces exit Afghanistan and through what method? Similarly, how will the United States and her allies be given assurances about future Afghanistan?
Progress was achieved regarding both these issues. For now, both sides will deliberate over the achieved progress, share it with their respective leaderships and prepare for the upcoming meeting, the date of which shall be set by both negotiation teams.

It should be mentioned that no agreement was reached regarding a ceasefire and talks with the Kabul administration, nor were other issues made a part of the current agenda. Reports by some media outlets in this regard are baseless.

The title of this release is in reference to Qur’anic verse 5:52. Here it is in full: “So you see those in whose hearts is disease hastening into [association with] them, saying, ‘We are afraid a misfortune may strike us.’ But perhaps God will bring conquest or a decision from Him, and they will become, over what they have been concealing within themselves, regretful.”
