On May 2, the U.S. and Turkish governments jointly designated Abu Ahmed Zakour (aka Omar Alsheak or Jihad Isa al-Sheikh), a senior leader with the Syrian jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The bilateral action with Ankara suggests that both countries are signaling their unhappiness with the group’s push into areas controlled by the Syrian National Army (SNA), a Turkish proxy militia. Zakour has been a key HTS liaison to those areas.
The designation also represented both good news and bad news for HTS on the sanctions front. On one hand, the announcement is the first U.S. government document to acknowledge that HTS broke with al-Qaeda years ago; all prior designations and reports claimed they were still together. On the other hand, this is the first U.S. designation of an HTS official since July 2021, indicating that group leader Abu Muhammad al-Jawlani’s various pleas for delisting have not gained traction in Washington.

نفذت القوة التنفيذية التابعة لـجهاز الأمن العام صباح اليوم الأحد حملة أمنية ضد شرذمة من العابثين بأمن المناطق المحررة، والمحرضين ضد رموز الثورة السورية ومؤسساتها المدنية والعسكرية بناءً على أمر قضائي صادر عن النيابة الأمنية العامة، وكان من أبرز أفعالهم وممارساتهم المعادية:
– تخوين مكونات الثورة السورية ومؤسساتها دون أدنى درجات المصداقية والمسؤولية بمنهجية يسعون من خلالها إلى شيطنة المناطق المحررة وتشويه صورتها وبث الفوضى وزعزعة الثقة بين مكوناتها المجتمعية، وهذا ما يدعم رواية النظام السوري المجرم التي طالما يسعى لترويجها.
– العمل على صناعة الشائعات وبث الروايات التي تحاول جاهدة إبراز صورة المناطق المحررة بأنها مناطق غير مستقرة تنتشر فيها الجريمة والفوضى، في الوقت الذي تتداعى الدول لتعويم النظام المجرم.
– استهداف المجاهدين المرابطين على الثغور بشكل مستمر بتهم الخيانة وبيع الأرض وتسليمها للعدو، بينما لم يُعرَف لهؤلاء الشرذمة نقطة رباط واحدة خلال سنوات الثورة السورية.
وفي الختام، فإن المناطق المحررة واستقرارها هما نتيجة لتضحيات الشعب السوري من الشهداء واللاجئين والمهجرين، ولن نسمح لشرذمة أيا كانت بالمراهنة على زعزعة استقرار المحرر وتخويف أهله لأهداف لا تصب إلا في صالح النظام المجرم وحلفائه.
