What they don’t tell you ahead of time when you do a Ph.D. and want to turn it into a publishable book, is that between the time you start researching and writing your dissertation and get in the Ph.D. cave, a lot of new secondary literature is written (along with all the new primary sources) by the time you finish it. And for me, who likes to incorporate as much content as possible into my research to make it as holistic and representative as possible, that meant there was a lot of reading to catch up on. There was also literature that I came across afterwards that I had not known about or missed, as well as other literature that I wanted to revisit.
