The Death of Moroccan Exceptionalism: A Brief History of Moroccan Salafi Jihadism and Current Jihadist Trends
By Jeffrey D. Palmer
As the conflicts in Syria and Iraq continue to attract foreign fighters, nations around the globe are formulating policies designed to mitigate the threat of radicalized and battle-hardened returnees from conducting terrorist attacks in their countries of origin. In the case of the Kingdom of Morocco, a real threat has emerged from the unprecedented mobilization of Moroccan jihadists to the region. The basis of this threat is illustrated by a parallel case of the returning Moroccan contingent trained in Afghanistan during the Taliban rule of the late 1990s. Here, hundreds of Moroccans received radical indoctrination and training in heavy weapons and explosives throughout various Salafi jihadi training camps. The knowledge and experience gained in these camps were subsequently employed in Morocco’s first-ever domestic terrorist attacks – a series of suicide bombings in the kingdom’s economic capital of Casablanca. In Syria and Iraq, over one thousand Moroccan nationals and hundreds of Europeans of Moroccan origin have now joined extremist organizations. Many members of these organizations have explicitly stated their intentions to perpetrate violent attacks in Morocco upon their return. Morocco and its monarchy, once the exception to Salafi jihadist domestic terrorism, has now become the direct target of such attacks.
The Vanguard of Moroccan Salafi Jihadism:
The events on May 16, 2003 marked the end of “Moroccan Exceptionalism” – the notion that Morocco’s Maliki school of Sunni jurisprudence had made the kingdom impervious to Salafi jihadist terror attacks. On that day, twelve suicide bombers detonated their explosive devices and ripped through the streets of Casablanca, killing themselves and 33 civilians. Under a subsequent anti-terrorism law, some 5,000 individuals would be arrested in a matter of months as the Moroccan government scrambled to bring any person associated with the attacks to justice.1 Operating under a broad definition of terrorism, many of the individuals caught up in the dragnet were swiftly convicted for crimes ostensibly related to the incident. Although the Moroccan authorities may have hoped to retain national prestige by attributing the attacks to foreign actors, the evidence pointed to an organization called the Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group as having a key role. The vanguard of Moroccan Salafi jihadism had arrived.
Salafi Jihadist Terrorism in Morocco:
The Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group (MICG), a Salafi jihadist organization founded in Afghanistan, was implicated as having a key organizational role in the 2003 Casablanca bombings. A year later several leading members of the MICG were convicted for their involvement in the 2004 Madrid train bombings. In light of these incidents, Moroccan security forces, in collaboration with European counterparts, worked to dismantle the MICG and liquidate the organization’s leadership with an aggressive counterterrorism campaign.2 However, in March and April of 2007, another string of attacks involving cells linked to MICG members would occur throughout Casablanca. In contrast to the 2003 bombings, these attacks were remarkably unsuccessful and claimed only one life besides those of the bombers.3 Although the lack of organization provided some insights with regards to the organization’s apparently declining capabilities, the 2007 attacks demonstrated to the Moroccan government that the threat of domestic Salafi jihadism remained a preeminent issue of national security.
Four years later, another incident would materialize in the wake of the so-called Arab Spring. On April 28, 2011, an explosive device was remotely detonated in the Argana Café, a restaurant frequented by tourists in Marrakech’s thriving Jemaa al-Fna markets. The blast claimed 17 lives and was attributed to an independent Moroccan jihadist cell.4 As Jack Kalpakian aptly wrote of Moroccan Salafi jihadist intentions, “The aim of these attacks was to wage war against both the Moroccan state and the society it represents because it views both as pagan.”5 In order to better understand how this Salafi jihadist ideology gave rise in Morocco, it is necessary to look back to the 1970s, during the reign of King Hassan II.
From Moroccan Wahhabism to the Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group:
In the mid-1970s, Morocco’s King Hassan II attempted to gain political leverage over the rising Islamist and leftist parties by establishing bilateral relations with the Saudi Kingdom. In return for financial support to be used for the conflict in the Western Sahara, the Moroccan king allowed the Saudis to import their Wahhabi version of Islam into the country. With virtues of political conservatism and obedience to rulers, the Wahhabist school of thought seemed to align with the greater Moroccan political agenda.6 However, King Hassan II’s strategic alignment with the Saudi kingdom would have grave consequences, as it would greatly contribute to the rise of the Salafi jihadist phenomenon in Morocco.
By 1991, as the United States was staging troops in Saudi Arabia for the conflict in the Gulf War, radicalization among Moroccan Wahhabist leaders began to emerge. During this time, Moroccan clerics were being attracted to the Saudi Islamic tradition in part because of the vast economic resources being provided by the oil-rich Riyadh.7 These conditions gave rise to notable Moroccan Wahhabi clerics such as Mohamed Fizazi, who had by this time declared open support for Osama bin Laden’s vision.8 Fizazi promoted a strict Islamic ideology with an emphasis on jihad. His group would come to be branded by the Moroccan government as “Salafia Jihadia.”
In September 1996, the Taliban had consolidated political power and installed the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. As a result, some Moroccan Salafists began to migrate to Afghanistan in order to take part in the manifestation of the Salafist ideology. The small Moroccan foreign fighter contingent in Afghanistan had originally joined the ranks of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG). By this time, the Libyans had already established installations designed to facilitate and train incoming foreign fighters from North Africa.
As the Moroccan foreign fighter contingent in Afghanistan grew larger, the MICG would be formed. At a meeting in London in early 2000, al-Qaeda’s Abu Qatada al-Filistini would give his blessings to the leaders of the incipient organization, Mohammed Guerbouzi and Noureddine Nafia, on the formation of the Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group. In this meeting, Abu Qatada emphasized the importance of strong organizational infrastructure and strategic vision. Abu Qatada additionally informed Guerbouzi and Nafia that attacks against the Kingdom of Morocco would be permissible.9 A subsequent mutual agreement between the leadership of both organizations, apparently made in good faith, allowed Moroccans belonging to the LIFG to join the MICG.10
According to testimony provided by Noureddine Nafia, a meeting with Ayman al-Zawahiri in July 2000 would yield even greater collaboration between the MICG and al-Qaeda. After the meeting, and with consent from the Taliban, al-Qaeda trainers assisted the MICG in establishing a reception center in Jalalabad and a training camp called Tarek ben Ziyad.11 At Tarek ben Ziyad, members of the MICG underwent further religious indoctrination; learned how to falsify identification documents; and received training on coordinated and remotely detonated explosive devices. MICG members also continued to receive training in weapons and explosives at al-Qaeda and LIFG training camps.12
In August 2001, leaders of the MICG would meet Osama bin Laden for the first time in Kandahar. Here, bin Laden urged the leaders to establish a jihadist base within Morocco. Shortly after their meeting, Osama bin Laden granted permission for the MICG to access all al-Qaeda affiliated camps in Afghanistan.13 However, upon the 2001 U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, most MICG members fled the country. As a result, many Salafi jihadists brought their new skills back to their countries of origin.
Saad al-Houssaini, “The Chemist,” was one such member. Having traveled to Afghanistan in early 1997, al-Houssaini had trained in al-Qaeda camps and had made contact with al-Qaeda leadership, including Ayman al-Zawahiri Jama’at

New statement from al-Qā’idah in the Arabian Peninsula: "Condolences on the Death of the Commander Gharīb al-Taʿizī"

UPDATE 5/1/12 9:05 AM: Here is an English translation of the below Arabic statement:

Alhamdulillah who said: (Think not of those who are slain in Allah’s way as dead. Nay they live finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord -169- They rejoice in the Bounty provided by Allah: and with regard to those left behind, who have not yet joined them (in their bliss), the (martyrs) glory in the fact that on them is no fear, nor have they (cause to) grieve -170- They glory in the Grace and the Bounty from Allah, and in the fact that Allah suffereth not the reward of the Faithful to be lost (in the least) -171-) Surah Aal-e-Imran, then
We offer our condolences to our Muslim Ummah for the death of Mujahid commander Mohammed Saeed Al-Omdah alias “Gharib Al-Taazi” – may Allah have a wide mercy on him, who was martyred Allah willing with two mujahidin after an American shelling that targeted them in the Al-Samadah region in Marib.
Commander Gharib Al-Taazi had a long journey of jihad for the sake of Allah which began in Afghanistan that he even was from those close to sheikh Osama bin Laden rahimahullah so he was among his special guards, then he participated rahimahullah in several operations until he became on the list of the most wanted to the American intelligence services, then he was arrested and imprisoned in the prisons of Al-Saud then he was transferred to Yemen and stayed in the prisons of Sana’a for three years until all facilitated for him and his brothers to escape from the Political Security in Sana’a, and he continued in his jihad and spending until he gained martyrdom with his brothers on the hands of the Americans.
And as we offer our condolences to the Ummah of Islam for losing one of its steadfast knights and one of its blessed heroes, we in the same time remind the Americans that their crimes won’t go to waste, and the record for revenge is long.
(and Allah is the master of His affair, but most people do not know)

Kavkaz Center presents a new interview with the Amīr of the Caucasus Emirate Dokku Umarov: "About Bin Lāden, the Caucasus Emirate, and Casualties Among the Mujāhidīn"

KC: The beginning of this spring has been marked by casualties among the Mujahideen of the Caucasus Emirate. The leading commanders of the Emirate – Emir Supyan, Emir Hassan, Emir Abdullah and others – martyred (Insha’Allah). These are tangible casualties. Can we say that the Mujahideen are weakened?
Dokka Abu Usman: The casualties we incurred have not weakened us and will not weaken us in the future, Insha’Allah. War is impossible without casualties. Since 1999, we have lost many of our emirs and leaders, but the Jihad did not stop, but vice versa, it expanded and strengthened. Generations of the Mujahideen replace each other. New young men take place of the deceased. More and more young men want to join the Mujahideen, but unfortunately we can not accept all the newcomers.
Another thing is that due to casualties, we have to correct our plans, to change tactics on the fields. However, that does not mean that a relative calm, for example, in Ingushetia, testifies about the weakening of the positions of the Mujahideen.
At one place, the activity of the Mujahideen could be reduced for tactical reasons, and in other place, they could be intensified. There could be a calm in Nalchik, but a major sabotage attack could be carried out in Vladivostok. We consider the Caucasus Emirate and Russia as a single theater of war.
We are not in a hurry. The path has been chosen, we know our tasks, and we will not turn back, Insha’Allah, from this path. Today, the battlefield is not just Chechnya and the Caucasus Emirate, but also the whole Russia. The situation is visible to everybody who has eyes. The Jihad is spreading, steadily and inevitably, everywhere.
I’ve already mentioned that all those artificial borders, administrative divisions, which the Taghut drew, mean nothing to us. The days when we wanted to secede and dreamed of building a small Chechen Kuwait in the Caucasus are over. Now, when you tell the young Mujahedeen about these stories, they are surprised and want to understand how those plans related to the Koran and the Sunnah.
Alhamdulillah! I sometimes think that Allah has called these young people to the Jihad, so that we, the older generation, could not stray from the right path. Now we know that we should not be divided, and must unite with our brothers in faith. We must reconquer Astrakhan, Idel-Ural, Siberia ´- these are indigenous Muslim lands. And then, God’s willing, we shall deal with Moscow ulus (district – KC).
KC: As you know, the US said that they had been able to kill bin Laden. There was a statement on behalf of al-Qaida posted on the Internet, which confirmed the martyrdom of their Emir. What is your assessment of what happened? The US says that the death of bin Laden will positively (for the West) affect the overall situation in the world.
Dokka Abu Usman: If the death of Sheikh Osama bin Laden is confirmed, then we will only say the words from the Holy Koran – “We all belong to Allah and to Him shall be our return”.
We ask Allah that He accepts the martyrdom of Sheikh bin Laden, because that man abandoned his wealth and peaceful worldly life for the sake of protecting Islam. And that is a great goal, and the reward for it is great.
With regard to the question of whether bin Laden’s death will affect the situation in the world, I think that the infidels do not believe themselves that their life became easier. According to all signs, it is clear that the world is in such situation that the death of the leaders of the Jihad cannot stop the process of the revival of Islam.
That development will go forward, regardless of the fact if the United States, Russia or the UN want it or not.
We all see that the world has changed very much.
For the first time in decades, the awakening of the Islamic Ummah from hibernation has become so clear and widespread. The Mujahideen and true scholars operate more than ever simultaneously in different regions of the globe, supporting each other and realizing the common goal. Ordinary Muslims take to the streets and express their support for the Mujahideen, demanding to restore the Sharia.
And in response, the infidels are frightening the public with al-Qaeda that allegedly became more active in the Caucasus, the Philippines, Yemen and Somalia.
KC: In this regard, we would like to hear your opinion about so-called “Arab revolutions”. Some experts say that these revolutions were initiated by Western countries.
Dokka Abu Usman: For the West, these developments were as much a surprise as for the Arab regimes. It is obvious. And it is all nonsense that America planned here, and the CIA acted there…
Allah, praise to Him, shook those regimes by His Will and Wisdom, humiliated those Taghuts who were in power for many years and humiliated the religion, and humiliated the Muslims.
And it is another problem that Western countries are trying to use the wave of “Arab revolutions”. And they manage to do it, although not everywhere.
At present, it is not all clear, and it is not clear how the events will unfold further.
Everybody sees today how America and other Western countries betray their allies, puppets, who faithfully served them for many years. Subhan’Allah, these dictators sought greatness from the infidels, while all the glory belongs to Allah and his Messenger (pbuh). Now the masters rejected them and left them to be devoured by the crowd.
The time has come for collapse of dictatorial regimes, which the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) warned about, and it is obvious.
Even if the infidels manage put in power new puppets, I’m sure that there will be no longer former control over these countries now. A completely new situation emerges before our eyes, Allah opens up new opportunities for the Muslims.
Another problem is how this opportunity will be used by the Muslims. Because Allah does not change the condition of the people unless they change it themselves.
At present, there is a state of confusion in Libya. Although, according to incoming information, groups of Mujahideen are operating there. There is a hope that they will be able to lead the Muslims.
There is no sufficient information about the situation in Egypt and Tunisia. We hope for the best, but at present, a certain calm is felt there, and, unfortunately, news reaches us that some well-known Jamaats are again going to play the game of “Democratic Islam”.
Events in Syria, as it seems, just start to unfold. There is unrest in Algeria, Morocco and Jordan.
Perhaps, the most interesting events, of all Arab countries, can be expected in Yemen, where the positions of the Mujahideen are most promising and from where a serious military movement could start.
The only thing I can say for certain is that if there are no armed force of Muslims, no Jihad and no fighting, nobody would allow us to establish the Sharia of Allah. If it were possible, it would have been done already by our Prophet (pbuh).
KC: May Allah reward you in goodness for the interview and your comments.

UPDATE 5/20 10:34 AM: Here is an English translation of the below Arabic statement:
This is a letter that was delivered to me by some brothers, and they said that an American wrote it in one of the chat forums, and the brothers transferred it until it reached me. They wanted me to answer this American on his inquiry, I was hesitating in the beginning, but the brothers said it seems that he is a man who seeks truth, and we as Muslims have no objection in making others listen to the truth, so let this American lend us his eyes and read these few humble words in the identification of Osama…

This is the letter as it had reached me:

I’m an American, and I really don’t believe everything my government says. I was moved by the way the media dealt with the death of Osama bin Ladin. I thought he was hated by the Muslims because of his ways; at least, that’s what the officials told us in our country. I realized after his death that he was loved by most of you! I want to know exactly what Osama meant to you as Muslims. I want to know the truth from you, and not from the media, because I simply do not trust the media. Please be straightforward and honest. I really want to know the truth.

And this is the answer:

O American… I will tell you today about a man whose story is like a legend… and he is a legend indeed… a legend that was witnessed by the whole world…

His name is Osama, his father’s is Muhammad, and his grandfather’s is Awadh. So, his name is: Osama bin Muhammad bin Awadh bin Laden… His father Muhammad came from Yemen. Yemen – if you do not know – is one of the oldest lands on earth and from the best of civilizations; and it is the origin of Arabs. The young Muhammad traveled from Yemen to Jeddah, in the west of the Arabian Peninsula, working as a porter this self-made fellow promptly became the biggest construction contractor in the Arabian Peninsula, he was known by his straightforwardness, honesty, and persistence… He also made a strong relationship with the ruling family there.

I do not know – O American – how much you know about Islam, but I am telling you that Muslims have three holy mosques, which are: the Holy Mosque of Mecca, the Holy Mosque of the Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) in Medina, and Al-Aqsa Mosque in Palestine, Jerusalem. There is no other holy place for Muslims other than these; I arranged them according to their importance and greatness for Muslims… You may know the Ka’ba, that cubic building which has a black cover in Mecca, if you looked around this simple building which was built by Prophet Ibrahim and his first son Ismail, the surrounding construction was built by Osama’s father “Muhammad”. If you looked for pictures of the holy mosque of Messenger Muhammad (may all praise by Allah be on him) in Medina and you see that beautiful superior building, Osama’s father “Muhammad” was honored with working on this building, and when Al-Aqsa mosque in Palestine was burned by the Jews – some decades ago – there was a contraction between the Arabs to rebuild the mosque, Osama’s father “Muhammad” gained the honor to rebuild this mosque also.

I told you Osama’s father is from Yemen, but I did not tell you that his mother is from Sham. So, he is son of Yemen and Sham; these two regions are from the best civilizations in the world. So, Osama is the son of civilization and history, but he was born in Hejaz. Hejaz, is the oracle of Muhammad (peace be upon him), so here the mixture of civilization, history, and creed wove into a mixture that is Osama’s soul.

Osama’s father’s weight and business became larger and larger to the point that he gave the king of the Arabian Peninsula six months salaries of all the government employees; this was after a financial crisis there. After that, he gained a high status and great caliber between the kings and princes of the Arabian Peninsula. From this house, from this family, from this honor and dignity, and from this civilization and history: There was Osama.

Osama was raised in a good and rigid setting, his father – regardless of his wealth and caliber – was very careful to raise his children on seriousness, hard work, and persistence. So, Osama grew (up) as a religious, serious, and hard working man unlike other rich people’s children who grew immoral due to excess of wealth, status and caliber.

In his early youth there came about a great change in his life for the Red Soviet army entered the Muslim land of Afghanistan. The news began to reach the land of the two holy mosques – west of Arabian Peninsula – and Osama because of his serious religious nature was following up this news as other youth there; but he was not like them. Because Osama is a positive man and he could not be satisfied by just following up the news. He went many times to Pakistan the neighbor of Afghanistan. Finally, he decided to go to Afghanistan in ’82, that means before (29) years of age, he was (25) at this time. He waged Jihad with the Afghani Mujahideen against the Soviet (Union) until they beat them and kicked out the Soviets from Afghanistan. As a result of this historic rout of the Soviets; their country became Russia and a lot of countries disintegrated from it.

This was the first station in this young man’s life… then, a palatial dangerous event happened that changed the face of the world. That was the entrance of the American army into the land of the Arabian Peninsula in ’91 in which is the holiest places of Muslims. This was after Saddam Hussain entered Kuwait in ’90. Osama was warning the rulers of the Arabian Peninsula from Saddam’s intentions before this year, but they were not listening to him. Then, after Saddam entered Kuwait, Osama – with his Mujahideen – offered the princes of the Arabian Peninsula to kick Saddam out of Kuwait, but they preferred the Americans and its ally’s armies to enter the Arabian Peninsula, oracle of Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him). And Osama’s hunch was right when he stated to the people that these armies have come to stay.

This event was truly the historic moment which lead to the change of events on earth… this was the first time in history that a non-Muslim army entered the land of the Two Holy Mosques, this army is enumerated by half a million fully armed men, and this is the first time that the Arabian

New statement from the Shūrā Council of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan: "On the Occasion of the Great Martyr Shaykh Mujāhid Usāmah Bin Lāden"

UPDATE 5/6 3:12 PM: Here is an English translation of the statement below:
Jamadi-ul-Thani 02, 1432 A.H, Friday, May 06, 2011
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
“Among the believers, there are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah. Some fulfilled their vow by death and some are still awaiting and they have not changed in the least”.
(The Holy Quran, Surah 33. “The Clans”, verse 23)
The Caller to Islamic Jihad against the invading infidels, Sheikh Osama bin Laden, embraced martyrdom as per the Will of the Almighty Allah during an abrupt attack by the American invading soldiers. (We are creation of Allah and return to Him.)
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan extends its deep condolence to the family of the martyr, to his followers and to fighter Mujahideen of the way of Truth and to the Islamic Ummah on this occasion of the great tragedy. We pray to the Almighty Allah to accept, in His Sight, the sacrifice of the martyr. May, the Almighty Allah, salvage the Islamic Ummah from the current situation of crisis due to the impact of the blessing of the sacred Jihad and martyrdom of the martyr.
The martyr took part in the Jihad against the Soviet invasion with great honesty and bravery shoulder to shoulder with the Afghans. He offered such sacrifices in this way that the history of the Islamic Ummah will for ever remain proud of. Sheikh Osama bin Laden was the ardent advocate of the legitimate cause of the first Qibla of the Muslims, the Aqsa Mosque and the occupied Palestine . He was an indefatigable fighter against the Christian and Jewish aggressions in the Islamic World and was not sparing any effort in this cause. The life of this Mujahid, who felt the antagonism against Islam, was full of fatigues, sacrifices and hardships. The history of Islam will always keep their memory alive.
The way of Jihad and the path of defense of Islam is a way fraught with sacrifices and martyrdoms. Like any other follower of this way, Sheikh Osama had been aspiring to attain martyrdom in the cause of the Almighty Allah. He reached his ambition with bravery, dedication and commitment in the last moments of his life.
If the invading Americans and their Allies wallow in this optimism that the morale and ranks of Mujahideen will weaken in Afghanistan and other occupied Islamic countries following the martyrdom of Sheikh Osama bin Laden, it will only show their lack of insight. The sapling of Jihad has always grown, spruced and reached fructification through irrigation by pure blood. The martyrdom of a martyr leads to hundreds more to head to the field of martyrdom and sacrifice.
The current Jihadic movement of Afghanistan sprouted from among the masses and is representative of the aspirations of this proud people. In this land of the braves, a strike by colonialism breeds sympathy and produces (an urge) to strike back. If the Mujahid people were prone to submit to force and tyranny, then is there any gimmick both in terms of military muscles showdown and other devilish conspiracies that has been left by the Americans during the last decade? But the ground realities have it that the use of force brings in opposite consequences here. This popular movement can be bracketed with a spring which, when you pressurize, bounces back with the same intensity.
The Islamic Emirate believes, the martyrdom of Sheikh Osama bin Laden will give a new impetus to the current Jihad against the invaders in this critical phase of Jihad. The tides of Jihad will gain strength and width. The forthcoming time will prove this both for the friends and the foes, if God willing.
The Leadership Council of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan

NOTE: On May 3, the Ṭālibān released a statement saying they believe UBL was still alive. It appears the message published by AQ earlier today has changed their mind.

New statement from al-Qā’idah: "You Lived Benevolent and Died a Martyr: Statement on the Death of Usāmah Bin Lāden"

Update 5/6 8:39 AM: Via CNN, here is an English translation of the below statement:
Al-Qaeda statement calls the day ” a historic day of the days of the great Islamic umma (nation) and in a noble stand of one of its great men and heroes across its blessed age and on the path taken by the will of all the mighty predecessors and those who will follow them, the Sheikh, the Mujahid & the Commander, the pious migrant fighter, Abu Abdullah Osama bin Muhammad bin Laden, may God have mercy on him was killed in a place where truth shines and where sincerity for good deeds and the call for truthfulness exist. Bin Laden was killed so he can follow the mighty caravan of the umma (the nation) with the great leaders, the loyal soldiers, and the honest knights who refused to abandon their faith for the mundane lives and to hand over the command to those who will be humiliate them and be humiliated and that’s why they confronted the weaponry with weaponry, force with force and accepted to challenge the arrogant masses that came out to fight with their killing machines, equipments, aircrafts and forces boastfully so they can be seen as men, and still this didn’t weaken their resolve and didn’t drain their strength, but instead he stood up for them face to face, a mighty mountain, a proud mountain and he was still in the midst of the battle that many got used to and his eyes were used to its sceneries but after that, he was yet to be excused and delivered his message and then he was shot bullets of betrayal and blasphemy delivering his soul to its maker while repeating: ‘Who sacrifice the blessed soul for his Lord to fight off the falsehood CANNOT ever be blamed’.”
“Congratulations to the Islamic Nation on the martyrdom of their devoted son Osama,
Even when the Americans managed to kill Osama, they managed to do ONLY that by disgrace and betrayal. Men and heroes only should be confronted in the battlefields but at the end, that’s God’s fate. Still we ask, will the Americans be able thru their media outlets, their agents, their instruments, soldiers, intelligence services and their might be able to kill what Sheikh Osama lived for and was killed for? How far! How impossible! Sheikh Osama didn’t build an organization that will vanish with his death or fades away with his departure.
In this context, we in al Qaeda Jihad organization promise God Almighty and we ask Him for help, support and steadfastness to continue on the path of jihad that our leaders, led by Sheikh Osama chose, and that we will not be reluctant, and will not deviate from that honorable path until God be the final judge between us and our enemy.
We also stress that the blood of the mujahid sheikh Osama bin Laden, may God have mercy on him is VERY dear to us and more precious to us and to every Muslim from being shed in vain and this blood (OBL’s blood) will be a curse that will chase the Americans and their agents, a curse that will pursue them inside and outside their country, and soon – with God’s help – we pray that their happiness turns into sorrow and may their bloods mix with their tears and let Sheikh Osama’s resonate again that “America will neither enjoy nor live in security until our people in Palestine live it and enjoy it. The soldiers of Islam in groups and as individuals will continue to plan and plot without any fatigue, boredom, despair, surrender or indifference until you receive from them a cunning misfortune that will gray the hair of the child even before he gets old.
We call upon our Muslim people in Pakistan where our dear Sheikh Osama was killed on their soil to rise up and revolt so they can cleanse this disgrace that was brought upon them by a handful of traitors and thieves who have sold everything to the enemies of the Muslim nation, and disregarded the feelings of this great Muajhid (Pakistani) people and let them rise up and start a massive public uprising to cleanse their country (Pakistan) from the filth of the Americans who have wreaked havoc in the land”.
Al-Qaeda chimes in to OBL’s body controversy and tells its supporters that OBL had one more message for them.
“The sheikh (OBL) didn’t leave this world before taking part in sharing the joy with his Muslim Umma (nation) regarding its revolutions when the nation has risen in the face of injustice and the tyrants and may God have mercy on him, the sheikh recorded an audio message one week before his killing that we will release soon, God willing and his audio message included a congratulation greeting, advices and a guidance. He ended his audio message with the following verses:
Saying the righteousness to the tyrants is the splendor & the gospel.
This is the path leading to the mundane life, this is the path leading to the hereafter.
You can die a slave if you wish or die a free man, this is your choice.
Moreover, we warn the Americans of any injustice to be made to the corpse of Sheikh Osama, God’s mercy be upon him or that he will be mistreated in any despicable manner and this warning includes the mistreatment of any member of the sheikh’s honorable family whether they are dead or alive and that the bodies must be handed over to the families because any inappropriate treatment will open the doors of double evil and you will only be blaming yourselves for your own deeds. We call upon all Muslims to do their duty in enforcing this right.”

New article from a member of the Anṣār al-Mujāhidīn English Forum: "Shaykh Usāmah Bin Lāden Between Jihād and Martydom for the sake of Allah"

Salaam Alaykom wa rahmatollah wa barakatuh,
In the Name of Allah, the Most gracious, Most merciful.

Praise be to Allah, Lord of Creation; Lord and Supporter of the oppressed monotheists; Breaker and Vanquisher of unjust tyrants. Peace and blessings be upon the Seal of the Prophets, and their master; Imam and exemplar of the Mujahideen; and upon his household and his companions and those guided by his guidance; revive his Sunnah until the Day of Judgment.
More than 48 hours have passed and still there is no official statement from Al-Fajr media regarding the Martyrdom of Sheikh Osama bin laden. The supporters of the Mujahideen are waiting for the official statement with their hands on their hearts. Many people are waiting for a denial statement and others are waiting for a confirmation. The people who are waiting for the statement are divided into 2 groups. We have the Believers on one side and the people of infidelity and apostasy on the other side. The first group is hoping for a denial statement and other is waiting for a confirmation.
The world we are living in is also divided into 2 groups. Our beloved Sheikh Osama bin Laden stated that, “the world is divided in a group of believers and a group of disbelievers“. This was not only said by Sheikh Osama bin Laden but also by George W. Bush (May Allah Curse him). He said “You are with us or with the Terrorist“. In other words you are with the soldiers of Allah or with the forces of Iblees. He is a liar but the said the truth.
I do not want to waste my time by analyzing what is said by the main stream media. There are hundreds of reports regarding the “assassination” which only cast more doubts and reduces our enthusiasm in Support of the Mujahideen.

That is why I want to focus on other important issues.
I think that many of us have read the Biography of the Prophet Mohammad (SAS). The most sad part is the death/martyrdom of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
What caught my attention was the reaction of Umar R.A and Abu Bakr R.A.

Umar’s Reaction:
Umar R.A, who was so stunned that he almost lost consciousness and stood before people addressing them:
Some of the hypocrites claim that the Messenger of Allâh died. The Messenger of Allâh did not die, but went to his Lord in the same way as Moses bin ‘Imran did. He stayed away for forty nights, but finally came back though they said he had been dead. By Allâh, the Messenger of Allâh will come back and he will cut off the hands and legs of those who claim his death.
Abu Bakr’s Reaction:
Abu Bakr R.A, left his house and came forth to the Mosque. At the Mosque, he dismounted and entered. He talked to nobody but went on till he entered ‘Aishah’s abode, and went directly to where the Messenger of Allâh was. The Prophet was covered with a mantle. He uncovered his face and tended down, kissed him and cried. Then he said: “I sacrifice my father and mother for your sake. Allâh, verily, will not cause you to die twice. You have just experienced the death that Allâh had ordained.”
Then he went out and found ‘Umar talking to people. He said:
“‘Umar, be seated.” ‘Umar refused to do so. People parted ‘Umar and came towards Abu Bakr, who started a speech saying:

And now, he who worships Muhammad . Muhammad is dead now. But he who worships Allâh, He is Ever Living and He never dies.

Allâh says in the Glorious Quran:
Muhammad (SAW) is no more than a Messenger, and indeed (many) Messengers have passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will you then turn back on your heels (as disbelievers)? And he who turns back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allâh, and Allâh will give reward to those who are grateful. [3:144]

My dear brothers and sisters,
– Did the Companions turn back on their heals?
– Did the Companions stop spreading the word of Allah?
– Did the Companions lose hope?
NO! NO! NO!
The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, marched forward and conquered the holy land. They sacrificed everything to make the word of Allah supreme on earth.
– Did the
تابعين turn back on their heals after the death of Abu Bakr?
– Did the
تابعين turn back on their heals after the Martyrdom of Umar?
– Did the
تابعين turn back on their heals after the Martyrdom of Ali?
– Did the
تابعين turn back on their heals after the Martyrdom of Uthman?
NO! NO! NO!

They continued in their Da’wa and Jihad. They eliminated infidelity and replaced it with Faith (by the permission of Allah).
And now it is our turn.
In 2006 we lost a great Mujahid leader in the Land of the Two Rivers. The Rejectionist celebrated his death and were shouting that his death is the end of Al-Qaida in Iraq. After the Martyrdom of Abu Mus’ab Al-Zarqawi we received the great news of the establishment of the Islamic State of Iraq.
Nobody heard of Abu Omar al-Baghdadi heretofore. After his first speech we heard a voice of faith and determination. His actions Spoke Louder Than his Words. His Companion Abu Hamza al-Muhajir always made us cry of joy. Every week we watched the soldiers of the Islamic State of Iraq eliminating the kufaar and murtadeen.
In Somalia we lost a great leader
Aden Hashi Farah Ayrow R.A. After his Martyrdom we saw the youths of Somalia capturing village after village, city after city and province after province. Not only that but they are also implementing the Islamic Law with great support of the Somali People.
In every field we see the Mujahideen becoming stronger by the day.
By the Permission of Allah!
So what if Osama bin Laden received Martyrdom?
My dear brothers and sisters, Sheikh Osama bin Laden did not leave the worldly life to earn more money. He left the worldly life to sacrifice his soul and wealth for the sake of Allah. He did this to receive martyrdom for the sake of Allah (SWT).

Death has to arrive once in life
Then why should it not end on martyrdom?
The final of Prophets and Apostles (SAS) has wished for this status. So be aware of and do not forget about this status. He, who is the most supreme of all creation, wished for this level: the desire to be a martyr.
He said, “By Him in Whose Hands Muhammad‘s (SAS) life is! It is more beloved to me to be martyred in fighting Allāh’s Cause and then fight and then get martyred, and then fight and then get martyred”
So, the gain of this spacious life for him – upon whom revelation descended from the Lord, the Most Glorious and Exalted, of Heavens and the Earth – was explained very briefly, that he himself was a desirer of this lofty status. So, fortunate is he whom Allāh blesses with the status of martyrdom.

Message to the (Supporters) Ansar al-Mujahideen
Our job is to bring the jihadist media to the next level. We have succeeded in propagating the words of the fields to the borders of the countries. We are with hundreds or thousands of members. Let us work together and become one moving body. We need to spend our time in seeking knowledge and acting upon it.

I pray that Allah Almighty dispose our hearts in obedience to Him and to make us steadfast in His Religion; and to use us to champion His Religion and its proponents. I pray that He makes possible for us the path to meet and for Him to be pleased with us, to enable us to glorify the obedient people and humiliate the disobedient people. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all that exists.

Hasten..hasten..and hurry up, you the companions! It’s Allah has opened the door; The door of Paradise and in my soul The melody of the charming hope. March forth in the way and never be humiliated Ignore the subservient and the doubtful And put aside the worldly life and dedicate yourself To the religion of Allah the One accepting repentance

ولا تنسونا من صالح الدُعاء

New statement from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan regarding the alleged death of Usāmah Bin Lāden

NOTE: The below English translation was provided by Felix Kuehn, which was originally posted here.

English:
Just because Americans have said they have killed Sheikh Osama bin Laden but they have’t shown anything to prove it yet. We don’t want to make any comments and on the other side the closest links [people] to Osama have not given a confirmation of his death so we cannot make any comment as to whether he is dead or not.

Pashto:
